Best of Met
Champagne. It’s the sparkling masterpiece that every other sparkling wine wishes it could be. It’s the drink of celebrations, both the monumental occasions and the everyday highlights—a well-earned promotion, a night out with the girls, they all deserve their own Champagne moment, because if you ask us, enjoying a beautiful bottle of bubbly is a special occasion in and of itself.
Our Champagne is tops, too: For many of our early years in Seattle, Metropolitan Market had a delightful French chef leading our culinary program. Many longtime locals remember Jacques Boiroux and his famous restaurant Le Tastevin. He’s since retired and moved back to France but his legacy lives on in our bubbly, as every year Jacques heads to the Champagne region to taste and select the best for us. (Tough job, right?) This enables us to pass on a fabulous, authentic Champagne at a great value, one that holds its own against the finest options from France.
“You can blind taste our Champagnes against others that cost twice the price, and ours will certainly stand up without a doubt,” says Mark Takagi, our wine buyer. Our effervescent Champagnes are full-bodied with a toasty, brioche-esque flavor, and nearly overflowing with dancing streams of fine bubbles; a sign of a high-quality Champagne.
Now every year just in time for the festive holidays, we import a container full of not one, but three, stunning Champagnes. All hail from the house of Francart Philippe, from the commune of Vaudemange in the Marne Champagne district. The grapes they receive are all premier cru, or “first growth,” meaning they are of the highest quality possible. We invite you to try all three of our exclusive cuvees—the vintage of 100% Chardonnay, the non-vintage Chardonnay-Pinot Noir blend, and a gorgeous sparkling Rosé of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that are just waiting to be popped.
We sample and select the very best, straight from the source in the Champagne region of France.
